Brain Tumour Support Group

Welcome To our Website

If you have been affected by a brain tumour, you are welcome to join us. The support group provides an opportunity for people to share their experiences and feelings with others who are going through similar experiences. The group facilitators may lead a discussion about particular topics or experiences. Meetings could involve laughter, tears, empathy, acceptance and learning something new. Groups can also help participants become more informed about brain tumour-related topics, such as treatments, side effects, exercise and nutrition, relationships and life after cancer.

Each quarter we invite speakers to present topics of interest at meetings. Guest speakers may include doctors, nurses, psychologists, dietitians, naturopaths and pharmacists.

While Cancer Council Queensland does not run or manage this support group, they can provide you with contact details for independent, face-to-face support groups in your area or for interstate Cancer Council online and telephone support groups that may be suitable for your needs. Just call 131120 for more information

Our meetings are usually held at the Cancer Council Queensland offices at 553 Gregory Terrace, Fortitude Valley QLD 4006 on the first Thursday of each month from 10 am - 12 noon

Unfortunately due to the rise in Covid19 cases in QLD we are unable to meet face to face in February 2022

We hope to return to face to face in March 2022. Please watch the calendar, sign up for our email updates and/or join us in our Facebook group for updates

There are some new rules around the use of the meeting space at the Cancer Council Queensland Offices. Please read them below.

Cancer Council Queensland

New rules for use of the Cancer QLD offices

Parking Information:
Onsite Parking is unable to be provided for external support group members at this time. Group leaders may discuss with Cancer Council Queensland the provision of carparks for members with disability parking permits on a case-by-case basis.
Groups will need to arrange their transport and parking when meeting at Cancer Council Queensland premises.

The group is responsible for supplying and arranging their catering and refreshments. No food or drinks are to be left on the premises.
Groups are unable to use any of CCQ’s catering equipment at this time, including cutlery and crockery. If bringing in external food, groups either can utilise local caterers or bring in individually portioned food. Groups are unable to bring in share food that is not individually portioned.
Covid Safety:
All group members (including leaders) are required to sign in whenever they enter Cancer Council premises for contact tracing purposes. Group members may be directed to do this either on paper or via the ‘Check-in QLD’, Queensland Government Covid check-in App on their smartphone. Groups should be aware that Covid information may change at any time in any region, and that CCQ will be in touch to communicate if any changes are required such as mandatory mask-wearing. All members should remain socially distant at 1.5m away from each other at all times.

Groups will need to provide their hand sanitiser for use at the facility.
